This was Cairo. That’s Egypt so’s ya know, and this was the first time The Librarian had sent me anywhere beyond stateside,  and his parting words still haunted me.

“Be extra careful Mr. Enfield, I’m afraid this book is beyond your usual expertise and there’ll be no aid of the sort you typically enjoy.  Cairo is a terribly old place and its streets are teeming with very odd magics that don’t hide themselves among the shadows and the nightmares of the mad.  In my ne’er do well youth I made the acquaintance of certain individuals there. Who knows, perhaps one still remembers their Old Friend, we shall see, we shall see …..”
